What are your office hours?

Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to conduct business. If you wish to speak with a Township official, please call 517-546-1588. Township Trustees contact information is available on the Officials page of this website. 

What can you tell me about the planning commission and zoning board of appeals?

In addition to the Township Board; the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals also meet during the year. The members are appointed by the Board of Trustees to serve designated terms. The Planning Commission meets the fourth Tuesday of the month and the Zoning Board of Appeals the first Monday of the month, if needed. If a resident is interested in becoming a member of the Planning Commission or Zoning Board Appeals, please contact the Supervisor indicating your interest along with a resume.

How can I get rid of my garbage?

For trash pickup, you need to contact a private contractor. Check your local phone book for names of those operating in the area. We have information available at the Township for large item disposal as well as recycling.

What schools will my children attend?

Most of the children in Marion Township attend Howell Public Schools. Residents located in the Schafer Road area may be in the Pinckney School District. Check by calling the school district for additional information. Howell Public Schools phone number is (517) 548-6200. Pinckney District is (734) 878-3115.

Do I need a Burn Permit?

You do not need a permit. Burn barrels and campfires are permitted. If you are burning brush, please keep the fire under control and keep a hose nearby. Burning leaves, grass clippings and construction materials is banned, as it creates an environmental hazard. Questions should be directed to the Howell Area Fire Department @ 734-546-0560. What kind of fire protection do we have?

The Howell Area Fire Department serves Marion Township. They have a satellite station located next to the Township Hall. The station is manned during the day. In the event of a fire, you should call 911. If you have general, non-emergency questions for the Fire Department, please call (517) 546-0560.

What Parks can I use as a Marion Township Resident?

Residents of the Township have access to 2 Township Parks.

Park #1 is located on Triangle Lake Road; south of Coon Lake Road; includes children's play equipment, baseball diamond, walking trail and a picnic table.

Park #2, Jack Lowe Memorial Park is located at the Township Hall property on Coon Lake Road near County Farm Road. The park includes a Disc golf course, gazebo and picnic tables. The Gazebo is available for rent by Township Residents for family reunions, weddings or other events. The charge is $100.00 and alcohol is not permitted. Information is available by calling or coming into the township offices during regular business hours. Rental forms are available on the Rental page of this website. Howell City Park passes are available for a fee at Howell City Offices.

What cable company serves the Township?

Charter Communications is the cable provider for the Township. If you have questions about cable, phone or internet service, call them at 1-866-883-5586.

AT&T offers U-Verse video service in some areas of the Township. Check their website to see if U-Verse is available in your neighborhood.

What is the local paper and radio station?

The Livingston County Press and Fowlerville News & Views are the local newspapers; information is available for local news and area activities. All public notices by the Township are published in the "The News & Views". WHMI, 93.5FM is the local radio station.

When do I get my tax bill?

Property tax bills are mailed in early July & December. If for any reason you do not receive one, contact the Treasurer's office. It is your mortgage company's responsibility to request your tax bill. All residents recieve a tax bill, whether you or your mortgage company pay the bill.

Is there a Garden Club?

If you are interested in gardening, you are invited to join the garden club. They have speakers at some of the monthly meetings to help inform gardeners new and old. The Garden Club is responsible for the planting and maintenance of the flower beds at the Township Hall. They do a great job and the gardens look beautiful.

Are there any cemeteries in Marion Township?

The Township maintains three cemeteries, Lakeside, Harger and Green. The cost for a plot is $500 for residents of the township and $1,000 for non-residents. How and where do I vote?

Stop by the Township Hall to register to vote or register at the Secretary of State Office. If you have questions about the process, please call our Clerk's Office @ 517-546-1588. All precincts vote at the Township Hall. Precincts 1 & 2 vote in the Assembly Hall and 3 & 4 vote in the lower level.

Can I use the Township Hall for a Meeting?

The hall is available for non-profit groups or homeowner's associations to hold their meetings. If you would like to reserve the hall, please call to schedule a date for your meeting. The Township Hall, Lower Level and Gazebo are available for rent by Township Residents. The charge is $150.00, with an additional $150.00 security deposit that is returned after your event. Can I get a dog license at the Township Hall?

Dog licenses are available at the Township, you may call the Township or the County Treasurer (517) 546-7010 for information about fees. Dog licenses are available year round, they are issued with the renewal date of the rabies shot. They are available as a 1or 3 year term if your rabies certificate is valid for all 3 years. You will need a copy of current proof of rabies shot and whether the dog is spay or neutered.
